Planner 1

The City of San Leandro is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Planner I (payroll title: Project Specialist I). This part-time position will be responsible for performing planning and zoning review; processing business license and permit applications; and overseeing the review and approval procedures for planning and zoning matters. The successful individual will be an effective communicator able to positively interact with the public and staff and have a commitment to excellent customer service. S/he should possess basic principles, purposes, and techniques of the various phases of city zoning and planning, site planning, and architectural design, as well as applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to zoning and city planning.

This position is an excellent entry-level opportunity for recent college graduates.

Position Reports To: Planning Manager

Required Skills/Experience/Education:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning, environmental design, public administration, city planning, architecture, economics, civil engineering, urban design or a closely-related field. Experience: One year of related experience in redevelopment, planning, affordable housing, community development or a related area performing duties involving program development, administration, project and program evaluation and monitoring, capital improvement, and revitalization.
