The County of Monterey Resource Management Agency is seeking an experienced Planning professional to join the Land Use and Community Development Division.
The Chief of Planning is responsible for developing and implementing programs, divisional goals and measurements, objectives, policies and procedures. The Chief of Planning oversees a unit budget of $5.8 million and leads a team of 18 professional and paraprofessional staff as well as consultants, program vendors and support resources working in a collaborative environment.
Under general direction plans, organizes, and directs, through supervisors, all County planning and environmental review programs and activities; serves as technical advisor to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors; and performs other related work as required.
The incumbent in this class exercises substantial, independent authority to manage day-to-day operations. The position requires broad and extensive administrative experience in regional planning, environmental protection activities, and land use permitting processing. This position is responsible for the formulation of objectives and policies that carry out the mission of the business unit.
Education: Five (5) years of administrative, supervisory or managerial experience in the general management of land use planning with responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the staff and activities and program.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional planning, natural resource management, landscape architecture, geography, environmental, engineering, or a closely related field.
A degree in planning and/or AICP certification is highly desirable.
